Social, Cultural and Environmental Policy ALPIN MOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTRE, 'PUHI NUI'

Manaakitanga is a deep-rooted concept in Maori culture. It implies guardianship-over our land (whenua), treasures (taonga), people(tangata) and our visitors (manuhiri). As hosts, we are proud of this tradition and it is our responsibility to ensure visitors receive the very best of ourselves, our history and our time.

Our Rotorua culture has a tradition of welcoming visitors and you will find that the ALPIN (Puhi Nui) will go out of their way to ensure your stay is memorable, for all the right reasons.

As members of the Rotorua Sustainable Charter and holders of Qualmark Silver environment status we encourage our guests to share our vision in minimizing our impact on the whenua (land).

To be able to utilize the energy from the geothermal hot water that is located underground is a major factor in reducing our energy consumption. Although Rotorua has an abundance of potable spring water, by using this water sparingly water will be available for future generations.

75% of our guests re use their towels when staying more than one night. This has a significant impact on reducing washing chemicals, water consumption and energy.

The Alpin Motel and Conference Centre is proud to be the first Motel in NZ to receive the Qualmark Enviro-Silver award rating for sustainable tourism accommodation. While staying with us you are encouraged to hire a Mountain Bike and explore Rotorua on safe cycleways which cater for all skill levels.

Rotorua Sustainable Charter

The Alpin Motel and Conference centre is PROUD to be the FIRST Motel in Rotorua to be an active member of the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter. We have been chosen to work in collaboration with a Government Department to explore alternative energy sources and we are active in eleminating excessive waste for packaging. We are happy to explain the methods we use to ensure that the 'Clean and green' image NZ has is warranted and sustained.
